I'm not sure what advice you refer to, but the announcement did
emphasize that people should not try to uninstall SSL111 and that the
3.x kit was being made available so people could start investigating
compatibility and migration.

I think the only news here for you is that other people who rely on an
installation kit can now find the problems you've already found by
building your own from source.
