Because way too many people have lost their way and are focused on
the issues that don't matter in the grand scheme of things when it
comes to the survival of your way of life.

Unfortunately, people have become comfortable and have forgotten the
survival of a way of life worries that previous generations had. Those
issues have not gone away but are just temporarily not visible.

Given how much independence and technological leadership the US has
willingly given away over the last couple of decades, there's no
guarantee this time it will emerge victorious when those issues
become visible once again and the US has to deal with them.
