Agree - its like Oracle, Sun and yes, even DEC VMS models of the past.

1- Start with something new
2- Something new catches on and gets popular
3- Execs get greedy and raise prices
4- Customers will put up with higher prices for awhile because they like the
new product
5- Execs get even greedier and continue to raise prices
6- Customers put up with price increases, but for new projects, they start
looking at alternatives for new projects
7- Over time, the previously something new product becomes legacy and
non-strategic in Customer environment

Oracle is at step 6. 

Yes, history continues to repeat and all to often, past mistakes are
ignored.
