My question was in the context of the comment that FreeBSD was chosen
over Linux for pushing data at a huge rate through some _very_ high
speed network interfaces.

Given that VMS is known for having slower I/O performance, I was wondering
just _how_ much slower than Linux it would have been on the same hardware.
