Modern software is complex and require a lot of work
even for stuff that is "almost" there.

Just look at the VMS Basic on VMS x86-64. They got LLVM.
They got the frontend. They got the G2L piece. They got
a compiler wizard (John R). And we hope (!) that it will
be ready this year.

Despite all the classic mythical man month and 9 month
babies caveats then getting software done requires lots of
man power.

Around 2000-2001 then J2EE (later Java EE later Jakarta EE) was
hot and specs and servers came out fast. But it did not
happen my magic. I was told IBM had a R&D center with
8000 people cranking out their J2EE stuff.

I am sure Erlang and Rust *can* be ported to VMS with
full functionality. But it *will* only happen if the
effort is put in.
