Real-time at its core is about meeting timing deadlines.
If you miss the odd timing deadline and can still function (maybe in
a degraded way), it's called soft real-time.
If you miss a timing deadline and hence go BOOM!!! (or even fully fail
in a less dramatic way :-)), it's called hard real-time.
