Google could ditch it. It has never been an official
supported Google product.

But it is open source under Apache license.

Being open source does not by magic produce maintainers.

But:
* with 23000 projects depending on it
* no external dependencies
* no need for huge enhancements (JSON is JSON)
then it seems like a pretty safe bet.
