Rdb probably not so big. Despite the coolness factor.
SQLServer is used at a few high volume places like MS own Office 365 web
and StackExchange.

FaceBook have a lot of MySQL/MariaDB servers. Sharded! :-)
They also use some PostgreSQL.
And for the the real big data they use HBase.
