In regard to last weekend's
debacle with Tim Crawford, Tom Miller was scheduled to call for us at
Mt. Nittany Squares on Sunday. I got a call from him Saturday late
afternoon asking to be relieved of that obligation if he could get a
substitute caller for us. Whaddaya gonna say when some club is in dire
straits with 400 reservations for an anniversary dance and the caller
is held up at the border? Tom was able to get a caller for us, Jeff
Bobst, and our dance proceeded as scheduled. Needless to say, a lot of
our folk were disapointed to miss Tom, but we had a great time with
Jeff. This is about the third or fourth time in the last year Tom has
cancelled out on us, leading to much scrambling on our part. Jeff Bobst
has filled in many times for him and deserves much praise for his
willingness to adjust his schedule. Our club schedules Jeff about once
a month throughout the year for Adv and C1 calling; we find his
personality great and his calling outstanding. Tom is also scheduled in
about once a month; we've known him since he was a beginning caller 20+
years ago and it's been a pleasure watching him develop his calling
skills. I don't know the outcome of Tim's troubles, not having heard
any news about the situation. I hope it was successfully resolved as he
comes across the border frequently according to the flyers I see at
dances. He's been in our area of central PA for many special dances.
