I don't know about that point, but arguably the best book on the 
intricacies of C and it's standard library must be:

C, A Reference Manual by Harbison & Steele.

I have a very well thumbed 4th edition (1995) on my desk and my younger 
son has a castoff earlier version.

Every C programmer needs a copy of this book, if no other...
