COMPAQ ST32171W != DEC RZ1BB-CS

They may be the same size but there is more to a disk than just size. 
The reported sizes appear to be slightly different.  Mechanically they 
may even be the same drive but they identify themselves differently and 
may have actual differences in things like the firmware.

I would buy another RZ1BB-CS *OR* another ST32171W.

Before doing anything hasty, you might want to check that all the cable 
connectors are seated properly!
