We had a huge system that we were backing up, with our best tape
drive a TK70. In order to fit on few enough tapes to complete
the daily backup daily, we had the user set all the object files
and object libraries /nobackup during the build process, with the
understanding that they would have to rebuild from source if we
   ever lost the disk.

It was a third party disk with a bug in thier controller, and from
time to time we lost the content. We found and fixed a few mistakes
in the build process this way, but never lost a byte of data that
had been generated by a human.
