Going back to the early '90s, a UK insurance company reported that red 
cars and black cars had the worst accident statistics, though I have no 
idea why.  Certain colours are harder to see at dusk, and I noticed the 
difference when I switched from a dark car to to a white one at a time I 
was doing 400-500 mile round trips every week.

I was once told that traffic police used to play "snooker" when 
selecting cars to check. One red one, one black one etc, and then work 
up the colours :-)
