As others have said, Python on VAX is a problem, but I tried to use
Mercurial on both Alpha and Itanium and although the Python worked, I
had problems with the web server part of Mercurial and ran out of time
so I put Mercurial on a linux box to get it running.

This was about a year ago so things (hopefully) may be better now.
