I also am a distant observer.  I think it matters a great deal whether 
someone called his work number or his home number!  If you want an 
answer on HP's time, you must pay.

If you want an answer right now, you should be willing to pay for it.  A 
"volunteer maintainer" probably did not volunteer to provide phone support!
