Note that the URL
http://er6ad3.ecr6.ohio-state.edu/soft/http_server_3-11.zip
exists (analog to the URL
http://er6ad3.ecr6.ohio-state.edu/soft/http_server_3-10a.zip) but
apparently there is no link to it.
I'll suggest to Dave that he put a link to it.
He made some changes to get it to run on Itanium, at least partly as a
result of some requests I made from work. Maybe he wants to keep 3.11
from becoming official until more people have tested it.
We've been using it at work for several months now (maybe more than a
year) and have no problems with it. It was essentially just compile,
link and go. I recommend defining WWW_SYSTEM to be a search list, the
second translation being the default WWW_ROOT:[SYSTEM] and the first
your personal directory, in which you place copies of files from
WWW_ROOT:[SYSTEM] before modifying them. Several advantages: it is
clear what you have modified, it is easier to run more than one
architecture in a cluster, it is clear what files you might need to
modify when setting up the server somewhere else (different usernames in
the .prot files, different disk names if you need PASS rules for certain
special directories etc).
For a while now, we have also been running the server on several ports.
It wasn't obvious (to me) how to set it up, but once one knows what to
do, it is really easy.
