The idea of fine grained tests is from a time when many extremely different OS
platforms existed and it was developed for portability of the usenet news
system.
There is a very similar idea to the schily makefilesystem developed by David
Korn, but it is based on a non-standard make program called "nmake".
Boostrapping to a new platform is harder with David Korns system than it is
with my sytem that is based on a standard make.
If you developed a better system than what I do with my enhanced "configure"
and with the schily makefilesystem, you are welcome to present your ideas!
