There is no such thing as "SystemV LPD".  Some systems implemented Berkeley
LPD on their versions of SYSV but it is still Berkeley LPD.

My guess would be that it was the age of the versions involved rather than
any kind of BSD<->SYSV thing that caused that problem.  Now, if you want
to see an improperly implemented version of Berkeley LPD, just check out
Linux.  :-)
