Should we assume that the difference (line 571?) is at the
end of the file? (Should we _need_ to _assume_ anything?)
Lacking useful information, my first guess would be a
Stream_LF file which lacks a final LF character. It's also
not clear who might be "fixing" it. Have you looked at the
file on the Solaris system? (You may need to use something
like "od" to see the details.)
Who makes this file? How? DIRE /FULL results might be
interesting. The tail end of DUMP /BYTE might be interesting.

"VMS" and "Solaris" are not very detailed descriptions of
the software being used. Assuming (again) that you're using
the DEC/Compaq/HP IP software, a TCPIP SHOW VERSION report
might be interesting. "uname -a"?
