I thought I would post this success, since I see a lot of problems in
other posts.

This is one of the $200 RX2600 with MP from EBay with 10 GB Memory and
no DVD or SCSI drives.

I reset the MP with the button on the back, and used the ARP and PING
method to initially assign an IP address for TELNET access. Once I
could connect, I then defined the same IP address as part of the MP
network configuration.

I did firmware upgrades through the MP and EFI via USB thump drive:
first to MP 2.29, then the EFI to 2.31 (includes System 02.31, BMC
01.53, and iLO MP E.03.30), and finally the iLO MP to 3.15. Note that
the name changed from merely MP to iLO MP. In all cases I brought the
firmware upgrades down through an HP web page to my Macintosh
(PowerBook, OS X 10.5.6), unzipped it, and copied it's contents to a
FAT formated USB thumb drive.

My initial attempt to install OpenVMS 8.3-1H1 from a USB DVD failed
after the VMS banner was displayed and the drive went into mount
verify which it never (20 minutes) came out of.

I ordered a Pioneer DVD burner (DVR-K17 slimline ) ...

I thought about the original USB connection, with two USB cables to
get from the back of the RX2600 to my desk ... and decided that I
should try a powered USB hub in the middle: SUCCESS!!! There are four
USB connectors on the RX2600: this used the upper of the two that are
vertically aligned, if that makes any difference. I installed to a DEC
RZ1CB-CA 4GB SCSI drive out of my AlphaServer 800 after changing to
the drive sled that came with the RX2600.

The DVD drive is from Other World Computing (OWC), which I bought for
my Macintosh. I'm guessing that the Vendor ID is the bridge (IDE to
USB 2.0 & Firewire 400).
As viewed by my Macintosh:
