I could be wrong, but I think the recently released OpenVMS packages of
Seamonkey and Firefox were the last versions to work with GTK 1.x. And
Current versions of those browsers would require GTK 2.x. Just taking a
wild guess, getting GTK 2.x ported may be the version limiting step for
porting the browsers.
Confirming that would require some archive diving over at mozilla.com,
or, as John is doing, asking people who know. Having an up-to-date GTK
library is a gatekeeper for a lot of graphics applications for those few
who are into such things. I would be delighted to learn that my surmise
is wrong and that GTK 2.x is available internally for use in the
browsers but just hasn't been packaged up separately yet.
