That's a "feature" of a virtual machine. I'd love to give everyone a 6-processor VAX
with 8 GB of RAM, but it's overkill for most customers. 3/4 of my sales are the 128 MB
single-processor model (CHARON-VAX/XM). Lots of the low-end machines I replace only had
16 to 64 MB before virtualization. Customers say it's much faster than the original, and
they're happy.

Half of my customers WANT Windows. That way, they can sell it to management as being
"industry standard". Only the tech people know that it's really running VMS. ;-)
Of course, Windows is proprietary, but management doesn't understand that...

I have a list of prospects that are waiting for Linux support. The developers assure me
that it's "on the list". In the meantime, I gotta use the tools I have...

As you know, I can't discuss pricing in an open forum. However, consider how much extra
it would cost to lug a VAXstation 4000 on an airline trip (+monitor, keyboard, mouse, all
non-standard these days). In 3 bags, that's $150 a pop, assuming that it survives the
trip. And the TSA would probably want you to boot it up at every security checkpoint.
How do you price that pain? :-(

-------------------------------------------------

Everyone in comp.os.vms complains to me about pricing or features or whatever. If you
want something that's not available now, I'll be glad to pass it on to the guys in
Switzerland. But they're in the driver seat, not me.

Regardless of where you stand on CHARON, I love VMS, and the people involved in it. You
might not like my approach or my products & services, but at least I'm with YOU, not
trying to convert everything to something else. [Itanium doesn't count, it's still VMS.
And I do Itanium conversions, too.]

If you want to flame me, please send it to stan-at-stanq-dot-com. There's already enough
noise the list as it is.

[Shameless Plug Alert (tm) -- I am a CHARON reseller. But that's not all that I do,
