Well, now I have it out so I can look more closely.
The connector was right up to the shield, so it looked
pretty much like one piece.
First there is the release for the front panel, then
disconnect the cable and two little clips and it
slides out.
The adaptor is screwed on like it was made together,
but the drive was made in Japan by TEAC, and the
adaptor in THA, X-4219-CT. The adaptor, if it
is one, is HP part A7231-66570. That is written
in PC board etch, not added later.
The drive says TEAC DV-28E, then Model ver. -BP4
where the P4 looks like it was written in pen.
The spring clip that holds the drive in, HP
part A7231-00012, is not held on with screws, so might
have been added later.
I couldn't be sure that the adaptor part wasn't given
to TEAC to install while the drive was being built,
such that it doesn't come apart.
