I don't expect the U.S. to "go metric" in my lifetime.

Back during the "gas crisis" a few gas stations were trying to sell
gasoline by the liter. The idea flew like a lead balloon!

You can easily find metric wrenches (spanners for you Brits) largely
because Japanese and German made automobiles require them. Domestic
cars used English hardware sizes the last time I looked. (That may have
changed without my noticing because I've been driving Japanese cars for
many years.) Butter is still sold by the pound even though the package
is also marked with the net weight in grams. Milk is sold by the quart
although the container is also marked with the volume in milliliters.
We inflate our tires and measure the pressure in pound per square inch.
How many Pascals is 30 PSI? I'd have to look up the conversion factor,
find my calculator. . . .

The schools teach the metric system, Systeme Internationale for you
purists, but I doubt that the children do more than remember it long
enough to pass the final examination! What would they do with it!
Milk is sold by the quart, butter by the pound, gasoline by the gallon,
etc, and probably will be for the next twenty-five or fifty years!

Computers usually use 6-32 (32 threads per inch) screws except for the
CD-ROM mounting screws which are a metric size.

JF - If you're still paying attention, how many meters of snow do you
have up there?
