Well, we may bever know now. First off, if Filip is the OpenVMS system
manager for this cluster, he really needs to garner a little more under-
standing of some key OpenVMS internals. I don't think he need to become
intimate with data structures, etc., but some rudimentary understanding
of scheduling, memory management and cluster comms seems in order.
Like I said, running into battle to kill the already dead isn't going to
win the war. From Filip's initial description of his problem, it is ev-
ident that he is not well versed enough to be given anything but TMPMBX
and, maybe, NETMBX on any machine that I admin.
Availability Mgr. might have helped to diagnose and or even prevent an
unnecessary system reboot, but since he didn't make mention of that I'd
conclude it's either not installed or he has no idea of its existence.
Since he was going to use the patently offensive Micro$oft be-all, end-
all, cure-all solution to system maintenance, the least he could have
done was to force a crash dump for post-mortem academics. Analysis of
the dump after the cluster is back up and back in production might help
avoid a future reoccurrence of the issues which lead him here for all of
us to posit his problems.
