The excelent compilers + runtime errors + debugging facilities, which 
makes development fast even on a relative "slow" "old" Alpha

lock-manager is used

clustering saves a lot of time for managing the systems..

The home grown applications consist of 90% fortran90, 4.8% C, 4.8% C++ 
and .2% Pascal
