Example of using MBOX.EXE below.

 From one process :

$ cre/mailbox test_mbx
$ sh log test_mbx
    "TEST_MBX" = "MBA28887:" (LNM$JOB_8256DC00)
$ open/write tmp test_mbx
$ write tmp "ABCDEF"

Then from another process :

$ mbox MBA28887

Device: MBA28887: (TEST_MBX/LNM$JOB_8256DC00)

    Channels: 2, Operations: 0, Creator: 0000EE63 (SYSTEM_01)

    Total size: 1056, Remaining: 1050, Message size: 256, Msgs: 1

    Message number: 1, 6 bytes, Written by: 0000EE63 (SYSTEM_01) Waiting

$

At least for me, this is far easier then using SDA...
The tool was found on one of the VMS freeware distros, I think...
