[Info-vax] VMS Forever?

Hi Roland,

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
They've actually talked Verizon Wireless into migrating their real-
time system which required full bundling of a distributed transaction
manager to that worthless HP/UX platform. Good luck keeping a
transaction in synch over multiple sites without a distributed
transaction manager or a full cluster.

Does anyone know the reason/justification for the move? Was it really HP
running down VMS to a prime customer? Where was VMS Management during this
phase - still counting their "Formidable" bonuses? Why don't they get out
there and fight?

Someone's gotta have released a *nix WS-AT thing by now; I can't believe I
haven't seen anything but XA. Can WebSphere not participate with WebLogic in
a 2PC?

Regardless of anyone's paticular feelings about Microsoft, MTS/DTC is an
amazing product and I weap for what DECdtm could've been with just a little
funding and support. But look how nuch we got to waste on RTR! Who's
laughing now eh :-(

Cheers Richard Maher

PS. See Chpt 7 in http://manson.vistech.net/t3$examples/Tier3_031.pdf for
details of how a VMS Resource (RMS, Rdb, Oracle)under the control of DECdtm
(+/- the XA Gateway) can participate under the bullet-proof ACID umbrella of
a 2PC coordinated by MTS/DTC.

Haven't they already pretty much announced they aren't going to keep
the best operating system ever made?

Sell your Verizon stock now. Sell your HP stock just before the
shareholder lawsuit hits. It will make Bernie Madoff seem small
time. Obviously HP is hiring MBA's and not people who actually
understand software or the concept of network up-times.

This will actually be a bigger legal battle than CAT vs. Oracle.
