Hi (again) David,

Fresh from your triumph in single-handedly saving the Health Industry and
Cerner for VMS, I am all a tingle for your sage advice.

Did you ever hear the old saying "Bite me"?

Yeah, if it wasn't for me VMS would be doing swell.

There you've hit the nail on the head - "business". If only VMS was being
run as a *business*, and not as the personal play thing and retirement plan
by those who have done little more than cover their arses for 30 years, we
might get somewhere. Sadly, the HP ownership of VMS (like the Oracle
ownership of Rdb) prevents any form of targeted accountability. They never
break down revenue/profitability to the VMS or Rdb levels and shareholders
never get to target their anger at the specific failure of the management
involved. These are Zombie businesses, and those in charge like it just the
way it is :-(

Go on, tell me how many licenses we hav again; what are this year
projections? "But we're doing what Gartner said! It's not our fault that
what we're delivering has piss-poor performance and is 2 to 10 years late."

Look it's simple, if you're team has gotten the wooden-spoon 15 years
running then you sack the bloody manager! If Ann McQuaid isn't responsible
for making these decisions then tell me who is. Then also tell me why she
hasn't resigned in disgust, or at least sacked the numpties that are
advising her.

You compare me to a snake when comfronted by the VMS den of vipers?

Wow that's crazy talk; your livin' right out there on the edge huh?

Well maybe the time for honouring themselves will soon be at an end. But
imagine if just one of these rules was "Making money for VMS and preserving,
then increasing, market share"? What a concept!

It might not sit well with customers that the likes of Goodwin, Wagoner or
McQuaid receive huge retirement bonuses, but at least the managerial damage
being inflicted on the respective companies will have come to an end.

Interesting.

Unlike many in cov (some who strangely hav almost nothing to do with VMS
anymore) I don't come here to socialize. And in case it might have escaped
anyone's attention, let me point out that when it comes to what people think
(outside of technical VMS and IT discussion) I don't give a monkeys!
