I had one of their early ADSL-1 modems, Noce command line interface with
smart commands.
I got a speedtouch (thompson/alcatel) and the command line is a real
mess. but it does ADSL-2 and its ethernet is 100mbps full duplex. I
still have the old 3com as backup though.
in terms of HP, I am not sure what to make of it. It appears that they
want to fill some hole left by the departure of the "Software" in
Enterprise Servers and Software and started an N (network) (that kingdom
within HP is now called ESN) .
While it may be a genuine desire to eventually make networking a core
product line, for now, I see it as a "soupe du jour" (a fad) for HP a
bit like when Carly started to sell Ipods and TVs.
Of course they will ruin 3com. They will integrate it with its ProCurve
stuff and 3com won't exist anymore,
And when HP exits networking because it won't really have taken root,
what was 3com will disapear with it.
If HP had really wanted to battle Cisco in the enterprise market, they
would have bought Juniper.
