I do not know what speed the DSSI bus is on that model. It does not go
through the Q-BUS.

Your Lance Ethernet chipset is fine for running newer versions of VMS.

You should find a slight performance boost from moving to 5.5-2 or later.

You do realize that SIM-H on a newer X86 hardware is both faster and
probably uses less power than your 2 VUP Microvax 3400. And it is
likely that you can get faster disks.

If your Alpha emulator is running VMS, you can set it up as a boot host
for a local area VMS cluster. With the current version of VMS, you can
set the Alpha up to serve disks like an InfoServer with out needing to
set up a cluster.

I have future plans to use XEN on linux to host a couple of emulators.

I am not sure how big of a x86 system running Linux is needed to be
faster than my VAX 4000 Model 500.
