The issue seems to be around email addresses that are forwarded to a
real account. I have a habit of giving out a unique address to every
company I deal with. Now I have 282 addresses pointing to 6 real VMS
usernames.
For example, if I am on a site today (4-AUG-2010) for a company named
XYZ Corp and I have to give them an email address then I will go into
VMS mail and SET FORWARD/USER=XYZ100804 myusername. Then a few weeks
from now I may notice that XYZ100804 is receiving spam so I change the
forward to SET FORWARD/USER=XYZ100804 SPAMTRAP and XYZ Corp does not
get any of my business after that.
Speaking of spam, I noticed that the email address I gave to Mindq
some years ago was then given to Encompass and now receives a far bit
of spam. Not sure if it was Mindq or Encompass, but one of them did
not do a good job of protecting my address.
