I booted a different DS10L from an external SCSI disk, with the shadow parameters set. This was an
8.3 system without the UPDATE patch, but it was able to come up with DSA0 as the system disk.
I then tried to put the internal IDE disk into its own shadow set:
$ mount/over=id /noass $2$dqa0
%MOUNT-I-MOUNTED, INTERNAL mounted on _$2$DQA0: (MHORAM)
$ dism/nounl $2$dqa0
$ mount/sys dsa1 /shadow=$2$dqa0 internal /confirm
%SHADOW-I-VOLPROC, $2$DQA0: (MHORAM) has been removed from shadow set.
%%%%%%%%%%% OPCOM 10-AUG-2010 18:27:16.75 %%%%%%%%%%%
$2$DQA0: (MHORAM) has been removed from shadow set.
%MOUNT-F-BADPARAM, bad parameter value
$
So it seems that shadowing doesn't work on IDE disks after all (as was pointed out, IDE didn't
appear on the list of supported disk types).
Thanks to all who replied.
