The difficulty of understanding other people's English is best
   overcome by practice.

When I was a kid, we moved around the US a lot. I can understand
English from almost anywhere with no problem (including China, Korea,
India, NY, NJ, California, Lousiana, Georgia, England, Scotland,
Japan, Saudi Arabia, both Carolinas, the entire midwest, and Greece).

A lot of my friends who grew up and were still living in one area
couldn't communicate with folks from across the river.

Only in Baltimore did I meet a fellow that I couldn't understand at all.
