Digital could have lowered VAX prices if it had wanted to. VAX
performan, when you look at the 4000 line was not bad at all. What was
bad was the price/performance ratio.

DEC couldn't adjust performance, but it could adjust pricing.

Yes, Dec would claim pricing improvements, and price-perfornance
improvements, but they were just token moves, not the significant moves
needed for the market to start buying from DEC again.
