I have two VAXen: a real(tm) one, and a simh. However, I only have one
(1) set of licenses, VAX-VMS and layered products (all hobbyist).

Yes, it did: But the system (simh) complained that it needed a
VAXCLUSTER licence. See below.

The VAX-VMS error was because I'd (stupidly) tried to add both nodes in
using LICENSE MODIFY /INCLUDE; once I fixed that, the VMS error went
away on the main node (simh); but not on the MicroVAX - for the
perfectly acceptable reason that I didn't have a licence for that 2nd
node...
ANYWAY... John Santos hit the nail on the head with my VAXCLUSTER
licence issue; he stated he has both VAXCLUSTER & VMSCLUSTER as part of
his hobbyist kit. So when I went back and looked at the e-mail, sure
enough there are both VAXCLUSTER & VMSCLUSTER. Somehow, when I built my
"load-licence.com" file, I missed out VAXCLUSTER...
SO: Now I've fixed that error. But, as per my witterings elsewhere, I
used the ethernet-booted MicroVAX to install a fresh VMS image on a
second hard drive; so that is now a standalone unit, not part of the
cluster. And, as such, is cheerfully running with the original VAX-VMS
licence. So now I can shut down the simh one, and just use the real
hardware.
FWIW, VMS cheerfully installed off the recordable disk - once I'd got to
a $ prompt. It just couldn't boot AND install from a standing start.
