I looked up 'solidarity', 'Émile Durkheim', et al.  Churchill's comment
appears to apply equally regardless of whatever distorted meaning of
socialism one tries to hide it under.  No matter the stated meaning,
it still all comes down to the desire that everyone should be equally
poor.  I, for one, want to live in a country where I have the opportunity
not to be poor.  Fortunately, the recent US elections give me hope that
that opportunity will remain open not only to me but also to the
descendant's of my siblings (having no children of my own).  Maybe
George Bush's (and Reagan's) optimism about the future of America is
not so delusional after all.
