Circa 1992, the FAL software on MVS was easily automatable and was
started automatically when MVS was booted (IPLed in IBM terminology)

It did not need any intervention on the IBM side for file transfers
since transfers could be initiated on the VMS side with norml DCL
operations. (to VMS, it apppeared as a DECNET operation).

I do not believe there was any interactive capabilities to initiate
transfers on MVS. Not sure if there was a batch capability either.

Yes, you could do DIR/FULL on a MVS dataset.
