[Info-vax] [OT] but maybe no : HP SmartArray 6402

Hello,

I'm sorry to go OT here, since this is clearly not a question related to
vms... but I've noticed that this group is quite active (in a way even more
than the "new" itrc), so maybe someone knows something that could be of
help.

Long story short, I got myself lured by taking an

HP SmartArray 6402 , battery backed raid controller

The issue : both batteries (onboard and ddr ram) are gone, and while the
first times they did allow a normal boot (signalling an open circuit), now
they are way past that and hang the controller at boot.
My error : I've not done my homeworks, so I've not realized that for a hobby
use is pointless to put a battery backed controller inside a workstation
that is being turned off daily for various hours (aka , it would kill very
quickly new batteries, if bought).

I've just tried removing both batteries to see if I can still boot the
machine (I can live without the cache), but the machine bios (hp pa box)
doesn't even arrive to the point of initializing the video or console
output... it hangs during the diags and red emergency lights blink next to
the power button.

Does anyone know this controller ? Any trick to operate it without the
batteries ? There are some undocumented plugs.. isn't that one of those
would allow to solve this situation ?
(small note, the controller leds , without the batteries, pass the onboard
diags and the HB and etc blink as operational... so the issue is the
workstation itself considering this a grave thing )

I've tried asking on the new hp forum, but seems a bit useless...

Thanks,

Alessandro
