When HP goes x86 for all servers, I think there will be one server
group. They will produce simple servers, and "mainframe" servers with a
gazillion CPUs etc. (aka Superdome class).
BCS loses its raison d'être once HP moves to industry standard servers.
The operating systems are already done out of its software subsidiary in
India.
IBM still does servers, so HP will still do servers.
What is interesting is that while HP is able to make it very clear they
are staying in the ink business, they can't seem to have a simple ,
clear and precise message about their BCS business. Is it done on
pupropose because they don't want to reveal the real plans, or are they
incompetent and don't realise that BCS customers would like some clarity
in the message so they know what is really happening ?
The spat with Oracle should be a clear indicatio to HP management that
they need to keep their BCS customers informed with a clear message.
