Yes, and increases unemployment.

In the case of goods, free market can work pretty well.  If I
know one store has better prices, I will buy more there.
(Assuming no price fixing, which is anti-free market.)

But in the case of employment, or other long-term contracts,
it isn't so easy.  Companies can't hire and fire people on a
daily basis depending on need.  (In many industries, anyway.)

Even so, some groups have accepted pay-cuts in lieu of firing
some percentage of the group.
