   The fact that it costs more than 1 cent to make a US penny doesn't
   come entirely from the cost of the materials.  A small amount of
   labor and profit (a contractor makes the blanks) are involved.

   But separating the raw materials, even on a large scale, is not
   likely to match the profitability of separating them from thier
   ores anyhow.
