It's not, but for some reason, the command I really want
seems not to have been implemented:

ALP $ show version
%DCL-W-IVKEYW, unrecognized keyword - check validity and spelling
 \VERSION\

Ok, go ahead. Lord it over me, the way your modern DS10
firmware can recognize an ATI Radeon card, while my old,
stagnant XP1000 firmware can't.

Well, even "noise patterns" says more than "'garbage'
output" said. With my weak psychic powers, I can't see what
you see, so my ability to analyze what's on your display is
very limited.

Can your display tell you anything about the signal it's
getting? (Digital or analog?)

> (I'm not a millionaire, [...]

I'd bet that my budget's smaller than yours (if I could
afford to bet). All my Radeon cards are Ebay bargains, but I
did get them a while ago. ($35 in MAR-2006, $31 in NOV-2006,
$23 in NOV-2007, $12 in APR-2009, $15 in OCT-2009.)

If you could find a matching picture on Ebay (or
somewhere), then I might be able to tell you if mine look
like that.

Looks more like you changed from non-clustered to
clustered, which causes VMS to get all fussy
(%LICENSE-W-NOINC).

      @ SYS$UPDATE:VMSLICENSE.COM

Look for "5. MODIFY an existing Product Authorization Key".

I'd expect a license problem to wreck a login, but not to
affect the low-level graphics behavior.
