Wikipedia is crap, at times, so if you don't find it there,
it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

It is a somewhat strange concept,
but the Linux "community" has spoiled it
and invented sth even worse: "configure".
Apart from that, Imakefiles & Co are mostly handled like LaTeX sources
and shell scripts:
you never write them from scratch, but copy one that once has worked.
