Physical examination; a 'real' one should have the DEC part number/
name on it somewhere. The KZPEA is an Adaptec 29160, which has two 68-
pin internal connectors and two VHDCI (small) external connectors on
the backplate. The KZPCA is a single channel controller and has one
internal 68 pin and one external HD68 connector on the backplate. The
KZPBA is a QLogic board with one internal, one external; some or all
may also have a 50 pin connector but I don't have time to open boxes
to check right now.
Also. If you bring up VMS you can do the following:
$ ANALYZE/SYSTEM
SDA> CLUE CONFIG
hit return to scroll through the devices.
My KZPEA reports as devices PKA and PKB, type Adaptec AIC-7899
The KZPCA on a separate DS10 reports as device PKB, type Symbios 895
The KZPBA on that DS10 reports as device PKA, type QLogic ISP1020
SCSI-2
The KZPBA is a single end controller, not LVD; the KZPCA and KZPEA are
LVD, at 80MBps and 160MBps respectively.
The part number you provided translated as an SCA device, at least in
the two lists I saw. That would mean one large 80 pin connector on
the back, instead of separate 68 pin data and 4 pin power connectors.
Internal cables are set up for the 68 pin drives, so an adapter is
needed to plug SCA drives in to a 68 pin cable. This is the adapter I
was referring to, and had trouble with with some particular drives.
