[Info-vax] no master member found for this virtual unit (again)

While trying to mount a shadow set, I have encountered the problem:
'no master member found for this virtual unit'.

Doing some COV group research, I've found the following instructions
(circa 2000):

------------------------------
$ MC SYSGEN
set alloclass 3        ! or any value that strikes your fancy
write current
exit

with a similar change in sys$system:modparams.dat
then reboot
------------------------------


I already have ALLOCLASS set to 1 (sysgen and modparams).

Will setting it to 3 have any effect on other shadow sets that are
mounted?

I have:
MOUNT /system DSA1:  /SHAD=( $1$DKB400:,$1$DKB500:) dk4
Should that be changed to:
MOUNT /system DSA1:  /SHAD=( $3$DKB400:,$3$DKB500:) dk4

This is on OpenVMS 7.3-1.
