I use OpenVMS to develop new apps for a Canadian telecom.
1) When on VAX, all our apps were green-screen (FMS for VT terminals).
While there are some vendor-provided VAX machines around the company,
all the OpenVMS apps in our shop have been moved to Alpha.
2) On Alpha, we have a mixture of web-based apps (via Apache) and
green-screen apps (FMS for VT emulators). Management wants everything
to be web based and so we are slowly converting over. (heck, the
annual support contract on for 105 Reflection emulators is $20k while
browsers are free)
3) Our team intends to move to Itanium but corporate bean counters
think that route will be too expensive. Our only saving grace (so far)
is that our systems have a much better up-time than other systems
(UNIX or Windows Server 200x). Like our first move to Alpha, we'll
probably need to acquire a used Itanium to enable our next exodus.
