   I know that may processors, starting with those in laptops, reduce
   power consumption when not particularly busy (like my laptop right
   now supporting byte transmission over SSH).

   I wonder if anyone has looked into halting some of those cores when
   not busy?  I'd hate to have the power companies burning more coal
   just to support all those null loops.
