SUPPORT COMMUNICATION - CUSTOMER ADVISORY
Document ID: c02720117
Version: 1
CUSTOMER ADVISORY: VMS84A_UPDATE-V0400: Boot failure on Alpha
NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and
software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is
subject to change without notice.
Release Date: 2011-02-15
Last Updated: 2011-02-15
DESCRIPTION
A new version of Alpha Primary Bootstrap file (APB.EXE) is included in
VMS84A_UPDATE-V0400, update kit for Alpha. The installation procedure
for the above kit replaces the APB.EXE on the target disk but does not
update the target disk.s boot block to point to the new version of
OpenVMS Alpha primary bootstrap file. This may lead to boot failure or
boot of the system with an earlier version of APB.EXE on an Alpha
system.
Boot Block on an ALPHA system disk points to OpenVMS Alpha primary
bootstrap file (APB.EXE). If the primary bootstrap file is replaced with
a newer version, the Boot Block has to be re-written to point to the new
version of primary bootstrap file (APB.EXE). VMS84A_UPDATE-V0400
replaces APB.EXE but does not update the Boot Block, resulting in boot
failure or using an earlier version of APB.EXE to boot the system.
SCOPE
Below is the affected OpenVMS version.
OpenVMS Alpha V8.4 with VMS84A_UPDATE-V0400.
and so on
