Is there a way to cause an IDE optical media boot of
OpenVMS/I64 to recognize attached USB storage devices?
Testing on an RX2600 with 2011 remastered V/I64 V8.4 IDE
optical media boot fails to display DNA* mass storage devices.
(In DCL command mode).
I tried separately invoking SYS$STARTUP:USB$STARTUP.COM
and it creates the USB$UCM_SERVER "watcher" symbiont process,
but it still doesn't seem to recognize attached USB mass storage
devices.
\\
I also used OpenVMS (from SCSI disk boot) to clone the
bootable optical disk to a USB stick. When I boot from that
USB stick, SHO DEV DN displays both the booted USB stick
and the other USB mass storage device attached.
(A good result).
I can live with this limitation that only USB stick boot
permitting access to other USB mass storage devices,
but my ideal environment would be to support IDE optical disk boot
usage
read access to an attached USB mass storage device.
That would give me interesting high-performance, low cost options
for backup and restore using USB mass storage.
